About

Diana Rios has a joint appointment as an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and El Instituto, the Institute of Latina/o, Caribbean, and Latin American Studies. Her research cuts across specialties in communication by considering media and intercultural communication processes. Her research areas are interdisciplinary and include mass media, Chicana/o-Latina/o studies, ethnicity and race, gender, and women’s studies. Professor Rios served as Associate Director, and later Director, of what is now El Instituto. She has received recognition for her contributions to the university and has also held numerous offices in the Association of Educators in Journalism and Mass Communication as well as in the International Communication Association.
